Internal links and sitemaps

Interlink your web pages well and add a sitemap!

A good website has well interlinked content and every page should have at least 1 click-able link to it. This makes a website more user friendly. It is good practice to have all of your website pages linked in the footer, like a sitemap. Well as your site grows at least your key pages or categories.

The expansion of your website may result in certain pages getting lost. Hence, it important to generate a XML sitemap for your website. This lists every web page in your site. The next important step is to submit a sitemap to Google to make sure that all your web pages get indexed.

Simon says Google Said So

Webmaster Guidelines, Google touts the merits of adding a sitemap to your website:

  • Offer a site map to your users with links that point to the important parts of your site.
  • Make a site with a clear hierarchy and text links. Every page should be reachable from at least one static text link.

Bottom line — you should include a sitemap as it helps your users, and it’s a good way to ensure that all the pages of your website are well interlinked. Sitemaps are a very useful tool for the user, as it allows them to get an overview of the website content and structure.
